In Afghanistan

Current Location

I was working as a contractor on an Army camp in Afghanistan when the bombing happened. A lot of people from my camp came into my office to tell me about it because everyone knew I was from Boston and proud of it.
Somebody had an iPhone and he connected with a friend from Seattle, who had the police scanner on her computer. A big group of us spent all day (9.5 hour time difference) listening in on the iPhone to the police scanner as the search happened over night.
It was pretty surreal because on the one hand we got bombed fairly often in Afghanistan, but on the other hand it was somehow worse knowing an attack like that had taken place in my home town. Everyone else thought it was just another weird thing to happen but for me it was very upsetting.
